Here's my favorite picture book of the week... I just happened upon it in the picture book bins: MARTHA BLAH BLAH by Susan Meddaugh.
Martha, the family dog, eats a bowl of alphabet soup, and instead of the letters going to her belly, they go to her HEAD and she starts talking! At first it's great: she can converse with the family, tell them exactly what she wants, talk to (and for) other dogs, order burgers at the drivethru window.
But then... the cheap owner of the soup company decides to only put 13 letters into the soup, and when Martha starts eating it, her words are missing letters and no one understands her.
Can Martha get her words back?
Funny and clever. AND... as soon as I read it, I got a storytime idea for it... which means I'm one up on my preschool storytime lesson plans for the next session ;)
